On the drive home, there’s a sign that reads “Uncle Buck’s - Opening Soon.” Well, it’s been saying that for at least six months, so who knows when it will open. Regardless of that, the nest stop for the Pizza Patrol was Uncle Buck’s in Halifax, right near the university.
To start it off, Uncle Buck’s loses big points for cleanliness and ease of sitting. All of the tables had various items on them, from spilt salt, to fries to papers. The chairs that were against the wall were impossible to get into without some athletic agility, which I of course possess and so I volunteered to sit in one of those very awkward seats in the least shifty looking table.
But, this is the Pizza Patrol, not a restaurant review so much. Uncle Buck’s was a nice surprise. Firstly, I had expected to have to order a pizza, but they did have slices, and nice size slices at that. So I ordered myself a slizzle of pepperoni and a Pepsi for $5.
The cheese was pretty good, nice and stringy, good taste. The sauce was unique, different from the other pizza places that I’ve been to. It had a sort of ‘tangy’ taste, if that’s the right word. The only real downside was the crust, which was hit-or-miss. Some parts were fine, but too much of it was quite dry and bland. Definitely some point loss there.
Overall, I give Uncle Buck’s 3.5/5 slices. I would recommend a slice of UB’s pizza to anyone looking for something a little different.
