Jessy’s Pizza

3.5/5

It’s a Friday night, and the party is over, but you don’t want to go home just yet. What in Sackville is open at 1am? That’s exactly what we were wondering, and as we were driving we saw Jessy’s Pizza open. We’ve eaten at Jessy’s Pizza in Dartmouth and Halifax before, but never gave it a formal review. Our expectations didn’t place Jessy’s at the top of Halifax pizza, due to a bad experience at one of the other restaurants. Now, the review - and the chance to bring Jessy’s pizza into good light with the Patrol - rests on the small shop in Sackville.

Despite the hour, or maybe because of it, there were hot, fresh pizzas to choose from for our slices. A massive slice, about a quarter of an extra large, came in at $4.35+tax with a can of pop - a reasonable price given the size.

The pizza blew past experiences out of the water. It was everything you would expect from a mini chain like Jessy’s. The pizza was hot, fresh and had a nice balance of ingredients. Jessy’s was very liberal with cheese, pepperoni and sauce.

Jessy’s had a number of good things going, but also a few things not quite up to par. The pepperoni was a general, run-of-the-mill pepperoni, and as a result didn’t stand out. The cheese was piled on, but like the pepperoni, I didn’t find that it stood out. Regardless of these issues, Jessy’s provided a great meal at a late hour.

Just as we were leaving, a small crowd of 7 or 8 crowded in line for a slice, and I can see why they went to Jessy’s to satisfy their Friday night hunger. 3.5/5 is what Jessy’s Pizza gets, for now. A few minor changes could bring their pizza up a level, but until they do that they’ll just be a good pizza. Definitely a place to put on your list for those late night, or any hour of the day, pizza cravings.
